The Boy With the Incredible Brain - Daniel

I just saw this video about a young boy, Daniel, who has an incredibly powerful brain who can calculate huge numbers without a calculator or learn a new language in a week.  He can find the pie to the twenty-two and a half thousand decimal places.

I question myself: Which one is it: nature or nurture?

  1. Wow. I watched the first clip and I'm stunned. I'm normally the first to say that nurture is just as important as nature, but I'm not sure if it is in this situation...his abilities seem like they are beyond what can be 'taught'...I could be wrong though. If it was nurture, I think we'd have more people with similar abilities.

  2. This is insane. I am absolutely blown away. The part where he discusses how he sees the sparks and the answer appears in the sparks and then he traces the values onto the table as they appear is crazy. I cant even begin to think of how this can happen, nature or nurture seems like a minor debate when you think about the complexity of this situation.

  3. I’m speechless! How is that even possible? How can someone know how to divide and give a precise answer down to a decimal place past a computer’s ability? How can he know pi to the 22 500th decimal place in his head? When it comes to nature vs. nurture, I’d say it’s neither. Daniel is one of 9 children, and neither of them have the same ability that he has. I don’t see how he could have been taught this either. I think it’s a bit scary that he is able to do all this. He can even learn a language within a week! I wish we could see how his brain works.
