With Anki you could set up test reviews or trivia-type games with the material your covering in class. You could also use it as a diagnostic tool to determine if your students are ready to move on to new material or if you need to spend more time on the current unit. If you can get the program put onto your school computers you could also have your student create the cards, challenge each other, or help each other study for the upcoming test.

Flash cards...yay! they are still good and simple class resource. They can be used during whole-group instruction, partner practice to quiz classmates or independent practice. The importance is to use them regularly/ consistently in order to help students to become successful and proficient. Review facts and mathematical terms by timing yourself or not. Flash cards may be used as an informal testing tool. There are many online flash card games. Do you know Factmonster or AplusMath ? See this web site: http://aplusmath.com/Flashcards/
ReplyDeleteCheck it out… Basic Algebra includes addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Enter your answer and it will show you if it’s correct or incorrect. In addition it shows you the right way to calculate it next time. It displays the Number of correct answers, Number attempted and your Score. It is nice that Student/ Teacher can just take a print screen or a picture of the score ….and there you have it …ready for your records….as an informal testing tool.
Or look under the games for example the HIDDEN PICTURE MULTIPLICATION. Solve the flash card question like 8x11. Click on one of the answers to uncover the hidden photograph. It gives you confirmation: Yes! 5 × 9 is equal to 45 or Sorry 5 × 8 is not equal to 63 and you move to another flash card. Pretty good for practicing and getting more proficient. No calculators this time, your brain only, please :)
Thanks for the post Mike; there are also various apps that your students can use to create flash cards on their phones and ipads. Your website would be great to use for a teacher directed review at the end of a unit. Thanks :)
