Students Assessing Their Assessment

I came across this sheet for student evaluation of their own assessment. I think it is important to bring students in on their assessment because it gives them the opportunity to think about their learning, to think about their strengths, and think about their mistakes and what they can do to improve.  This is an excellent tool to use in the classroom in order to enhance the ability of students to improve their metacognitive skills.  It would be important for teachers to model this with their students so that it is done correctly.

  1. Alyssa,
Great post! This can also be used as an exit card to allow students to reflect honestly on how they are doing in math. You can also track all these assessments and see if students are improving throughout the year. You can also incorporate these into parent teacher interviews by presenting them in a student portfolio.

  2. This is another reason to have student reassess their own work, I like the idea of Dana which is to put it in a portfolio to show to their parents. They can both review how their child is progressing.

  3. Excellent find, I particularly like how this assessment piece can be tailored to really focus in on specific strengths and weaknesses where needed. Although I have to admit I don't particularly like the wording on the Level 1 option ("I'm clueless").
